Waiting on Wednesday: Venom by Fiona Paul

Venom by Fiona Paul (Published by Philomel, October 3, 2012)

Cassandra Caravello is one of Renaissance Venice’s lucky elite: with elegant gowns, sparkling jewels, access to the best balls, her own lady’s maid, and a wealthy fiancé, she has everything a girl could desire. Yet ever since her parents’ death, Cassandra has felt trapped, alone in a city of water, where the dark and labyrinthine canals whisper of escape.
But when Cass stumbles upon a murdered woman—practically in her own backyard—she’s drawn into a dangerous world of secret societies, courtesans, and killers. Soon, she finds herself falling for Falco, a mysterious artist with a mischievous grin. . .and a spectacular skill for trouble. Can Cassandra find the murderer, before he finds her? And will she stay true to her fiancé, or succumb to her uncontrollable feelings for Falco?
Beauty, love, romance, and mystery weave together in a stunning novel that’s as seductive and surprising as the city of Venice itself.

I love the concept of this book, especially the setting of historical Venice combined with mystery and romance. I can't wait to read it!

Yay :) Thanks for featuring VENOM. I am happy to report that the revised copy does not say "the best balls." I thought I was the only one with a dirty mind until a girl on Goodreads made a similar joke :)

PS I love you Goodreadsers :) Even that one guy who gave 2 stars to the 3rd book in the trilogy which I haven't even started writing yet. Seriously, some of you will love Venom and some will hate it. I'm okay with that. Just happy people are interested enough to rate and review.

This ALMOST sounds similar to Cross My Heart, but after doing a double take, I think VENOM will probably be wildly different but equally as enchanting! It may share certain elements dead body, Italy, and artist-lover - and a similar cover design of a masked woman - but I am still reeling from Cross My Heart that I will gobble down anything Italian! :D

Thsi sounds really good. I hope I can read it. At first, I thought it was Michelle Madow's third "Remembrance" book, but I hope this one will be even better.

Venice is on my mind now. I want to read books in this setting - we were lucky enough to take a vacation there last summer! I'll have to look for this book.

If you like Venice and Rennaissance Italy, read Stravaganza by Mary Hoffman. They are amazing!
